Pretty Maids All In A Row

Here’s the kicker.

Oh man. My paternal grandmother is about to die. I’ve been dealing with it all for the last week, on top of my freaky period and my asswipe landlord and my noisy neighbors and the possibility of my sweet temp gig coming to an end and I have been in hiding. Tough shit.

A lot to compartmentalize and spew.

That’s not really, really true. I just seem to have a little to say about a lot today.

I am in the middle of the realtor’s web content and it is proving tricky since i’m not in the know with real estate lingo. I’m getting through, it’s just a different style of writing than I’m used to.

The stripper I did webcontent for is personally involved with the real estate dude I’m writing for and somehow they want to drag me int eh middle fo their personal drama. You’re porrly paired. My fault? Not really. I’m staying out of it and declaring it right here en blog.

I have a crush on yet another bartender.

I think my neighbor is getting shit beat out of her by her boyfriend. Anyone want to join me for a rendition of My Name Is Luca? Maybe if we sing it really loud in shifts in this building, she’ll leave him. Nah. She probably won’t.

I can’t fucking focus on anything because there is all this noise in the building.

I want to volunteer to participate in a virtual booktour, but it is for an author I have mentioned in previous blog posts, and I just interviewed her for a publication to run in December, so I don’t want to freak her out and make her think I’m stalking her, but she is entertaining and I’dbe glad to give her a booktour stop here on my blog, so I can’t decide what to do.

I got my period and have terrible cramps. (Not that you asked.)

My cousin, who is pearled and blonde and wears a lot to Ann Taylor just sent her stuffy folks a big fuck you by eloping with a hip-hop artist. I hear his professional name is Stacks. I love it and have personally been counting the moments until little Jenny Wonderbread looked around her cubicle and went crazy. I think the day is upon us.

My plant died.

I’m reading Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss. I wish I would have written it. It’s wonderful.

Back in town!

I’m back. Jesus. That’s a very long trip, to the midwest from the Bay Area and back. Hell. Well, anyway, it was worth it. My friend is settled in her sweet new apartment and sweet new city and I had the added benefit of meeting with my interview subject, Amy Guth.

Dude, I was so nervous, but she was way cool. I got a lot of material and will be shutting out the world for the rest of this weekend to get it all transcribed and edited!!!!!

Maybe the timing is good?

I spoke to Amy Guth this morning about our interview, and she is cool with interviewing in person this week when I come through town. Sweet. We’re going to meet outside the subway station near her apartment and then she knows of a cool coffee shop we can hang out in.

The timing seems, good, too. As she said to me just now on the phone that she has been getting a lot of crazy emails from people. Love letters, lust letters, fetish requests, and now, what seems like the threat of a boycott (Look at her blog for a letter. It’s so funny)! Isn’t that too funny? I think the DiVinci Code fucked everyone up and nobody understand fiction anymore. Man people are dumb…

Hey, sweet.

Hey score, I’m going to be doing a little more webcontent. Not bad. The stripper I wrote webcontent for before liked it and referred a friend and so I’m writing content for some real estate guy’s site, which is pretty sweet.

And, my friend just scored a really awesome job in Chicago and is giving me a couple of bucks to take time off of work and help her move. The added perk of that, of course, is that I’ll be in Chicago, and can possibly convince Amy Guth to let me interview her in person instead of on the phone. I don’t know, maybe writers are funny about that kind of thing that actors and stuff, but she seems pretty cool, so maybe she’ll be on board.

Project Update

I didn’t want to post it in case it fell through, but it seems like a sure thing, so I’ll share!

I just emailed the third editor I needed to talk to for my interview with Amy Guth, which was her publisher. The first two I emailed with said she was “delightful” to work with, one even going so far as saying she was “one of the few writers who isn’t a crazy drama-queen”, which is consistent with my experience with her so far.

See, I am conducting one really long interview with her. I’m editing it and Girlistic has agreed to run a feature-length interview piece, then Off Our Backs is interested in taking it on spec. I ran all of this by Guth and she is fine with it.

I sort of know her from a long time ago, so I feel comfortable about jumping into a project of this size with someone who is reaching the profile that she is. She used to be managing editor for a magazine I wrote a tiny little piece of crap for. Seriously, it was a piece of crap. It was a tiny little nonfiction article about going to Graceland. See? I told you it was a piece of crap. Anyway I contacted her when I heard about her book and see remembered me (or pretended to remember me, haa) an agreed to let me interview her. I talked to her a few days ago to talk about what sort of stuff I wanted to ask her and she seemed cool with everything, so, we press on.

I’m doing it by phone, so I bought this cool little suction cup thing that plugs into a recorder and tapes the conversation. Totally cool so I don’t have to freak out to write it all down as she is talking. And, having talked to her a couple of days ago, the woman talks really fast.

Strip-o-rama

I’m temping and using every free moment to make this stripper’s website content great. I think i’ve already done that, but she wants it perfect. Can you blame her? No, of course not. For as much as I’ve convinced her to pay me, she has every right to want it perfect.

Next, I’m doing content for a spa brochure, which I’m looking forward to because they’re paying me a slightly reduced rate but giving me free spa services, which is really exciting because I love that stuff.

Just wanted to check in. Later.

Hi, I’m Robin Meredith

Hi, I’m Robin Meredith. Yes, Meredith is my actual last name. My actual middle name is Lea. Said like Lay-uh. Anyway, I’ve finally decided ot get onboard and do this blog thing.

I graduated from college in June and I live in a really crappy studio apartment in the Bay Area. I think “Bay Area” sounds a whole lot better than “ghetto that is barely near water because that’s all I can afford and still be anyplace near San Francisco” but we explain things to ourselves all the time. Anyway, I wrote a little bit a few years ago for a magazine called The Complete Meal, but it closed down. Now, I work as an office temp (where I am right now) to make ends meet, and take on freelance editing assignments here and there. Also, in college, I did a lot of work with a little group that dealt entirely with feminist playwriting, which was extremely great, but also now defunct. nobody wanted to keep at it after we graducated except for me.

But, I have decided that I am going to write and edit full-time and document it all here. Somehow reporting it to you nice folks out there in cyberspace makes me feel accountable to someone so that’s what I’ll do.

So, I’ll get right to the reporting of information. I’m writing a little webcontent for a stripper this week. She seems like a nice enough lady, but requesting the use of “hot” and “wet” constantly on your website can be limiting to your writer. Just so you know.

Anyway, that’s what I have for today. Feel free to bestow freelance writing assignments upon me. Thanks.
